About the Course

This Nationally Recognised training course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct a comprehensive compliance audit of park or recreation facilities to identify non-conformities with Australian Standards, legislative and work health and safety requirements, as well as manufacturers’ standards.

It has been specially designed to incorporate both the AHCPGD212 Conduct Visual Inspection of Park Facilities; and AHCPGD311 Conduct Operational Inspection of Park Facilities units to maximise knowledge.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at those responsible for the comprehensive compliance audit of park or recreation facilities. These individuals analyse information and exercise judgement to complete a range of advanced skilled activities and demonstrate deep knowledge in a specific technical area. They have accountability for the work of others and analyse, design and communicate solutions to a range of complex problems. This may include playground operators, supervisory and technical personnel, risk assessors, design and safety officers, landscape designers and architects, auditors, equipment installers, managers and owners of a playground in public and private parks, schools, childcare and other recreation and leisure facilities.

Full Course Details

This unit (AHCPGD510 Conduct Comprehensive Inspection of Park Facilities) is derived from the AHC Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package (AHC) and is accepted as an industry standard qualification.

1. Prepare for comprehensive inspection of park facilities

  • Determine the specific facilities and equipment to be inspected as well as the purpose of the inspection as outlined in the operational request.

  • Identify the tools and equipment for testing and inspection and confirm availability with appropriate personnel.

  • Carry out pre-operational and safety checks on tools and equipment. 

  • Prepare appropriate checklists and reporting formats to suit the activity. 

  • Identify the types of facilities from checklist descriptions 

2. Undertake comprehensive inspection of park facilities 

  • Identify and record instances of non-conformity with Australian Standards, work health and safety 

    guidelines and manufacturers’ standards. 

  • Undertake inspections for structural integrity in an efficient and safe manner, according to enterprise policy. 

  • Identify and detail safety risks and hazards and situations.

  • Ensure that checklist entries are concise and accurate. 

  • Undertaken inspections according to OHS requirements. 

3. Assess age and predict effective lifespan of existing park facilities 

  • Identify the manufacturer of playground equipment and structures through reference to

    original plans and specifications. 

  • Determine and record the age and future lifespan of park facilities. 

  • Estimate and record the cost of repair or replacement of park facilities 

4. Submit report and recommendations 

  • Address situations requiring urgent action. 

  • Prepare concise and accurate reports and submit to management. 

  • Review existing management systems, particularly regarding frequency of inspection, and make improvements in consultation with management.

  • Make recommendations for future action that are consistent with industry standards and best practice.

Face-to-face delivery

The course will be delivered through a combination of face-to-face delivery in a classroom setting and practical exercises within the students’ workplace. This course comprises a combination of theory and practical training followed by a knowledge and skills assessment. The following schedule is customised to suit learners who are existing workers within local councils or private organisations. Participants may hold positions in various organisations and industries and should be seeking to ensure safety and functionality of equipment and facilities in parks and playgrounds. A pre-course questionnaire will be completed at the beginning of the face to face delivery to assess each participants existing knowledge of working within the horticulture industry.

Requirements:

Students are required to hold the unit AHCPGD311 – Conduct Operational Inspection of Park Facilities (or equivalent course code). Evidence of which must be supplied prior/upon enrolment. Participants are required to be over 18 years of age, be in good health and physically fit, and be responsible for their health and safety during the course.

Attendees who wish to refresh their competency must already hold the Nationally Recognised statement of attainment for AHCPGD510 Conduct Comprehensive Inspection of Park Facilities (or equivalent course code).
